شب قدر ۱٤۳۵

Tonight is شب قدر (shab-i qadr, “the Night of Power”), the night when tradition says that the first Qurʾānic revelation was given to Muhammad. If you are interested, I hope you will enjoy my post on this subject from last year.

Medicine: پزشکی

First of all I hope you never need to use these words, but since you can’t decide when and where to get sick or hurt, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

• medicine (the field): پزشکی (pizishkī; the ی ending can be used to make abstract nouns) or طِب (ṭib)
  
• medicine (medication): دارو (dārū)
  
• doctor: پِزِشک (pizishk) or دُکتُر (duktur, “doktor”)
  
• nurse: پَرَستار (parastār)
  
• hospital: بیمارِستان (bīmāristān)
  
• ill (adjective): بیمار (bīmār) or مَریض (marīż)
• illness: بیماری (bīmārī)
  
• injury: اسیب (asīb) or صَدمه (ṣadmah)
• injured: مَجروح (majrūḥ)
  
• “I am ill”: بیمار هَستَم (bīmār hastam) or بیمارَم (bīmāram)
  
• “I am injured”: مَجروح هَستَم (majrūḥ hastam) or مَجروحَم (majrūḥam)
  
• “Where is the hospital?”: بیمارِستان کُجاست؟ (bīmāristān kujāst?)
  
• “I need a doctor”: پزشک می خواهم (pizishk mī kh^wāham)
